Vincent started his early musical development on the piano. At the age of six he bought a squeezebox, inspired by the wellknown Dutch band ‘De Havenzangers’ but he soon gave up on it again. He didn’t like Dutch folk music enough...
After eleven years of playing classical piano Vincent switched to jazz. He enjoyed playing Dave Brubeck’s music a lot but while thinking of applying to the Music Academy to study jazzpiano, he discovered Irish traditional music in 1997.
Vincent picked up the Bodhrán and the Tin Whistle after his first visit to Ireland and started playing and performing with his first Irish trad band Shannon Breeze. After three years he joined My Left Shoe (Giggin’ St.Patrick, 1999) with Isaac Muller and later also the folkrock band Curling with whom he performed weekly in Amsterdam. He went back to playing the box again in 2000 after meeting Charlie Piggott (formerly of De Danann) who was on tour in Holland. He taught Vincent his first tunes and techniques on the box. Vincent then started to travel to Ireland regularly, visiting Charlie as well as playing the Box and Bodhrán in sessions, learning from and playing with his idols (Charlie Piggott, Johnny Connolly, Charlie Lennon and Tommy Hayes).
At the end of 2003 Vincent joined Caa a Dram (One More, 2004) and a little later the Haarlem based group Fanach.
Vincent also participates in a Dutch folk projects Hete Bliksem, and a folk trio DarkRaven and the Grandmasters of Deception.
Vincent developed a unique personal style of playing on his bodhrán. His steady, virtuose boxplaying and his warm voice have moved the hearts of many people. Next to playing music, Vincent is also active as bodhrán teacher and freelance composer / producer.
