When she was eight years old Nienke started playing classical guitar, but soon her interests changed to rock and blues. At first she played accompaniment only, but she later began to sing as well. She also started participating in several music projects, sometimes playing bass guitar.
Inspired by the band Muse she created her own style of rock music, with melodramatic ‘classical’ vocals, classical piano and spanisch guitar accompaniment. After recording a video clip, the band parted company. Nienke went back to playing classical guitar and started taking classical singing lessons.
She first encountered Irish music at a traditional session in Holland, where she met a guitarist who wouldn’t let her leave if she didn’t sing at least one song. While playing and singing there, she became aware of the special energy of Irish music. That feeling never left her heart again.
She started accompanying the other musicians at sessions while also learning more and more songs, untill she was asked by Sjoerd and Vincent to join Harmony Glen as guitarist / singer.
Nienke’s voice isn’t easy to forget: a beautifully clear, thrilling sound which blends perfectly with Vincent’s warm lower voice and the total sound of Harmony Glen. Her dramatic ballads as well as fast and happy songs will make you want to cry or dance, whether you like it or not.
