Job VerweijenEsperanto Kit and other percussion

For me, percussion is mostly sound and melody and has little to do with patterns, counting and licks. Combinations of sounds and their placement in the music, is my starting point. That’s why I use a broad range of instruments, mostly custom made or designed by myself.
A meeting in 2000 with Armenian master percussionist Arto Tuncboyaciyan convinced me to find my own path, to create my own vocabulary. From that moment on I consciously started to work out the ideas in my head. This has led to the creation of the Snaron (a snare mechanism for handdrums) and the Esperanto kit, a unique setup of instruments I have used on tours with Dutch theatre group Zenga, British duos Ember and Almaraya and American singer-songwriter Tish Hinojosa.

My sincere hope is that my playing is seperated from the ego and completely connected to the music so nothing unnecessary is being played. Music and other artforms should provide comfort, inspiration, beauty and joy. There’s already so much suffering in the world. On my website www.secondwindharvest.com you can find out more about my vision and projects past and present.
