We are asked from time to time if certain songs and tunes we play are included on any of our albums. Until now we have had to say no, we haven’t even thought about recording them, mostly because they have been recorded so many times by other artists. We just play them live because they’re so much fun to play!
But since we get these requests so often, we decided to create this in-between-albums-album. A sort of a musical snack...
During our UK tour in 2007 one moonlit night in the middle of nowhere, our Kia Pregio minibus (named Hoggle) almost lost one of its wheels. We could not fix it and were forced to sleep in a haystack that night. From that day on our UK fans have been making fun of us, singing the Three Wheels song whenever they can…
Although this is a request album, we could not resist to include two new, original Harmony Glen songs and a rewritten version of the (in)famous song Three Wheels on my Wagon.
Our second album which was released in september 2007. A more prominent place for the cajun and jazzy influences in our sound, and even a hint of klezmer shines through on this album.
The music is more experimental and adventurous, more powerful and uptempo. The album contains traditional songs and tunes as well as genuine Harmony Glen composed tracks. The album features four guest musicians: Isaac Muller on the flute, Erik van Geer on clarinet, backing vocals by Kars Jan Klok and Tony Green.
"If the group keeps developing [...their sound and adventurous attitude...] indeed Streaming Tunes promises even more than Before Dawn" Folkforum
"From straight Irish traditional music to their own songs with Cajun and Klezmer influences, Harmony Glen is proving to be a truly professional band." Wiccan Rede
"Also a lot of the intros are bursting with delicate tension before the rythm carries us away, opening to a raging, sometimes flowing, sometimes galopping crescendo we usually see with the best bands from Ireland or the USA, all without noticing the slightest effort which certainly must be there." Folker!
Our internationally acclaimed debut album was released on the 17th of june 2006, just a little more than a year after Harmony Glen was founded. Only half a year later the first print was completely sold out and many enthousiastic responses and good reviews came our way. Some quotes below, the complete reviews can (soon) be downloaded at the bottom of this article. Soon after the release of this album we were invited to come and play on the Feakle Folkfestival in Ireland which was the start of our ever growing list of international tours. The album features two guest musicians: Miriam Kavana (formerly of the Pogues) on the fiddle and Douwe Meijer (formerly of Harmony Glen) on the flute.
