The final days

Sunday was a relaxed day, we did the concert at the Central Club in Peacehaven, went home early and had a good night chilling in Nel's garden. Monday morning we woke alittle earlier than usual to go for a walk in the South Downs. A beautifull area with lots of sheep and a lot of sun as well this time. Mike told us they had a thick pack of snow here only three weeks ago. Hardly believeable if you see the downs in this summer weather!

Our final concert at the Smugglers Inn in Pevensey was a very nice conclusion of the tour. Familiar faces were in the audience; some people who we saw on previous concerts this tour came driving down to Pevensey for another listen. A quiet, intense and intimate atmosphere, so different from the party we had in the Hare and Hounds but so good as well. We sat outside after the concert contemplating on this tour, and decided it may well have been one of the best, most rewarding tours we did. Not only because of the brilliant weathre, the nice venues and the good audiences, but also because of the great support and friendship we received from our agent Graham Pope and the inexhaustible enthousiasm and good cares of Nel and Mike Hammerton. Thank you guys, you have really made this a great tour for us!

The Hare and Hounds

ImageThe Long Man of Wilmington was not as long as expected, at least that's what Sjoerd thought. He found the walk to it to be longer than the man himself... I presume he will have a lot to grumble about now... Anyway, we enjoyed the view and the concrete blocks of which the Long Man now consists. We were amazed by the bright yellow colors of the Rapeseed fields which stretched all the way to the horizon. It was pretty hot in the sun so we decided to drive on to Birling Gap near the Seven Sisters, and buy some ice cream.

Dominique found a beautifull stone which he was throwing in the air when this picture was taken. Exactly at the right moment.

We arrived early at the Hare and Hounds and built up the PA system. A nice and long soundcheck (not as long as the one on thursday though) and a good pint got us in the mood for the concert that night. And a nice concert it was! We enjoyed ourselver thoroughly, as did the audience. They were singing and dancing all night long and are probably asleep still.... We had good fun! Now we're all slowly waking up and preparing for our concert at the Central Club in Peacehaven today at 4 PM.

The G-Spot and beyond

One article for two days of touring.

That was a good start. A wonderfull meal, a great bed and a long night! We're full of energy for our concert tonight. After breakfast ( 1 PM) we decided to play some tunes in Nel's kitchen. Nienke broke a string, and while we drove to th G-spot music club to set up the PA system Nel and Nienke replaced the strings on Nienkes guitar. It took us some driving around, but eventually we found the right place. It looked really small from the outside but once we got inside it was a whole different experience! We took our time setting up and did one of the longest soudchecks we ever did, about 2,5 hours. Which was too long really. We eventually got irritated and grupmy with eachother so we decided to go back to the house and enjoy another michelinstar-quality meal.

The evening at the G-Spot was opened by a 17 year old Hannah who sang songs of various musical styles with an amazing voice. Our concert went down very well, our merchandise table was empty at the end of the evening. Even both Neckties were sold today! We will have to think of something else to decorate the merchandise table with now...

The Berwick Inn

An even longer night this time. freshly showered we enjoyed our breakfast in the garden. The weather is amazing, almost as if it were summer! We were invited to visit the Yellow Fish studios, one of the bigger and more wellknown studios in the area. So we drove down there. At first we thought we took a wrong turn, since we were standing in front of a concrete barn in the middle of a field. But once we got inside we immediately felt at home. Beautifull studios, a great atmosphere, just the type of place to record a live album... so who knows? We might actually go there next year... We enjoyed a very special cup of coffee concocted by Ross McCracken, the producer and owner of the studios, listened to our album. He liked it (phew) and showed us around the studios, which made our idea of maybe recording an album here even more tempting.

We arrived at the Berwick Inn around 6.30 PM and built up the PA. The evening started a little slow a lot of people were still eating their meals while listening. But quite soon we got the place going and we ended up singing the Rattling Bog together with the whole pub!

Today, sitting outside in the sun again, we got the idea to go for a walk, visit the Long Man of Wilmington and the Seven Sisters where we were last year. Hopefully Dominique wont act half as dangerous as he did then... We'll post a picture when we get back to the house!

Tonight we will play at the Hare and Hounds in Framfield and we know in advance the place will be absolutely packed, since on both previous concerts about half the audience told us they would be at the Hare and Hounds too. We wonder if we will still fit in there...

The journey

May 30, 2008

We leave extremly early ( yes 9 AM is extremely early for musicians) for Dunkerque, where our boat will depart at 2 PM. Unfortunately our annual birthday party for the queen was today, and we didn't count on the huge load of traffic which stood still on the highway. We tried, but there really wasn't any way around the queue, so we waited a bit. After an hour or so we got bored of waiting and turned around.

We ghostrode back to where we came from and took another route. Obviously we missed the boat so we arrived in Dover around 6PM. Without losing any wheels or other car parts we arrived in Framfield at our brilliant housing for the week, thanks Nel and Mike for the warm welcome and the terrific meal!

We met our booking agent Graham at the Hare and Hounds where we discussed the historical development of language and the general meaning of life untill late and then rolled to bed for a good nights sleep.

Tonight we will play at the G-Spot music club at Cinque Ports and are very much looking forward to it! Its a beautiful day, the sun is shining and nothing's gonna stop us now. Exept maybe that huge raincloud that's approaching at the horizon....
